poor mountain hill climb

This weekend I made the trip down to Roanoke, VA for the 2nd year in a row to compete in the poor mountain hill climb. This course rises around 3000 feet in just 6 3/4 miles. with several switch backs that seem that they will drive your heart so hard it may just pop off your head, this is nothing less than a challenging climb. My whole goal this year was to complete the course in a faster time than last year ( 47.18). Thankfully i was able to do this i finished this year in 44.15 however I was unable to hold the same spot i moved down from a 3rd place finish last year to a 4th finish this year. All in all i am very happy with how the race went, had a great time and look forward to returning next year.
photo: Sitting just before the finish of the climb, over looking the bottom we had just climbed out of. Behind me is the hardest part of the climb pitching between 16-20%. Thanks for taking this photo Ashton.

Podium spots!

Shootout on Angler's Ridge: Danville, Va 5/31/09 (35 miles off-road) - Brian Marsh came home with yet another 2nd place finish, swearing he will never again venture so far for such a long and grueling course.

Devil's Backbone Challenge: Wintergreen, VA 5/23/2009 (16 mile mountain bike race) - Brian Marsh finished 2nd place in the Expert Men's division. This was a challenging course with extremely steep climbs in 80 degree heat.
